Overview of the Role

We are seeking a Junior Energy Modelling Specialist to join our Energy System Optimisation team on a fixed-term contract. This role involves engaging in various phases of model-based analyses, including data gathering, evaluation, model creation, scenario analysis, and effective communication. Our models provide essential insights into the complex dynamics of energy systems, aiding industries, policymakers, and regulators in shaping future energy landscapes and meeting climate objectives efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analytical Development: Enhance your technical and modelling capabilities while collaborating with economic analysts to innovate or improve existing energy market models.
  • Effective Communication: Clearly articulate your technical findings and the rationale behind them.
  • Project Management: Organize and prioritize tasks to consistently deliver high-quality work amidst competing demands.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Work closely within a dynamic international team, sharing knowledge and supporting broader economic initiatives.
  • Client Engagement: Maintain regular communication with clients, tailoring outputs to meet their specific needs.
  • Firm Contribution: Participate in the broader life of the firm, embodying our values of openness, interest, profitability, and enjoyment.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A minimum of a 2:1 (B+ or equivalent) bachelor's degree, preferably in economics or a related field.
  • A strong interest in energy markets and their economic implications.
  • Experience with optimization challenges and algebraic modelling languages (e.g., GAMS).
  • Proficiency in R or Python, with familiarity in tools like Git/GitHub, STATA, Mathematica/Matlab, and PowerBI being advantageous.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and a willingness to learn and apply new techniques.
  • Outstanding communication abilities, particularly under pressure.
  • A proven ability to meet deadlines and a keen interest in the intersection of energy modelling and economics.
  • Fluency in English; a second language is a plus but not mandatory.
