We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic professional to enhance our communications team at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping our communication efforts.

Role Responsibilities

As a Strategic Communications Manager, you will play a crucial role in promoting road safety across Great Britain by developing, coordinating, and guiding DVSA's communication strategies based on insightful analysis.

Your focus will be on crafting engaging and motivating road safety messages that align with our mission of ensuring safer drivers, vehicles, and journeys for everyone. With millions of vehicles on the roads and a significant portion of the population holding driving licenses, your contributions will have a wide-reaching impact.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Formulate DVSA's primary strategic communication plans within your designated area.
  • Support major internal and external initiatives that align with the Communications and Engagement Strategy, in collaboration with your supervisor.
  • Provide guidance to ensure effective communication with directors and senior corporate leaders.
  • Safeguard and enhance DVSA's reputation by acting as a trusted advisor, considering the broader implications of communications, and identifying potential issues.
  • Understand stakeholder needs and articulate the processes involved.
  • Oversee, manage, and refine corporate communication messages and channels—both internal and external. Utilize insights to advise on appropriate channels, target audiences, and desired outcomes.
  • Ensure all communications adhere to established guidelines and quality standards, assessing effectiveness and success.

Candidate Profile

We seek a confident individual who can convey the right messages professionally and clearly. You possess the ability to adapt your communication style to suit various audiences. Collaboration is key, and you should be able to express your ideas succinctly and assertively. Flexibility and adaptability to changing business needs are essential, as is the ability to manage a diverse and challenging workload while enjoying autonomy in your role.

You should be adept at quickly establishing rapport with key stakeholders, both internally and externally. A natural communicator, you can handle challenging discussions with poise.

Experience in a communication role with a proven track record in strategic communications, media, digital, or internal communications is required.

Additional Information

Occasional travel may be necessary, including potential overnight stays. You should hold or be willing to pursue a professional qualification in communications, such as CIM, CIPR, NCTJ, or IOIC.

This position offers flexibility in work arrangements, operating under a hybrid model that allows for a balanced work-life dynamic. The expectation is to spend a minimum of 60% of your time at your designated base location.
