Position Overview

The Credit Ratings Analyst will collaborate with senior analysts in the assessment and oversight of credit ratings; conducting research, drafting, and disseminating reports; along with other related tasks. This role involves evaluating credit risk by synthesizing inputs from both internal and external sources. In performing credit analysis for assigned entities, transactions, or credit evaluations, the Credit Ratings Analyst is expected to engage in rating committee discussions and interact with issuers and other market stakeholders, in conjunction with senior analysts.

The Credit Ratings Analyst position is crucial to Moody's commitment to ratings precision, research integrity, and market engagement. This role will primarily focus on a specific rating sector, with opportunities for cross-training in other sectors.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Portfolio Management & Quality Assurance
Collaborating with senior analysts by executing daily credit assessments related to ratings, research, presentations, and investor engagement. Examples of analytical tasks may include:

  • Analyzing financial documents and data, interpreting financial statements, constructing and updating financial forecasts, and drafting analytical commentary in line with Moody's methodologies.
  • Assisting with proprietary models and financial projections as necessary, identifying data trends, and applying analytical skills to reach well-founded credit judgments.
  • Gaining a foundational understanding of credit principles through the examination of components such as transaction documentation, cash flow analysis, or loss allocation rules.
  • Conducting analytical tasks associated with portfolio evaluations and other credit initiatives.
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of Moody's methodologies and credit rating best practices, applying these under the guidance of senior analysts.
  • Collaborating with senior analysts to prepare initial drafts of rating committee memoranda.
  • Cultivating the ability to recognize and analyze key factors influencing issuer credit ratings, interpreting financial data and other credit inputs from various sources.
  • Monitoring credit quality and industry trends by tracking market developments and relevant news, analyzing issuer reports, and engaging with issuers for follow-up information.
  • Participating in rating committee meetings, providing analysis and insights as appropriate. Preparing credit estimates used to evaluate elements of credit risk in specific rated transactions.

Research, Investor Engagement & Market Interaction

  • Contributing to the initial drafts of essential research documents (such as credit opinions, issuer and sector analyses, press releases, pre-sale, and new issue reports) in partnership with senior analysts.
  • Participating in research strategy development, including idea generation and preliminary drafting, while adhering to Moody's research standards.
  • Attending investor briefings and issuer meetings as needed; assisting in the preparation of presentation materials; arriving ready to engage in discussions.
  • Building constructive relationships with issuers, demonstrating initiative to understand their business and proactively addressing issuer inquiries.

Credit Administration

  • Utilizing relevant ratings and research systems and software specific to the rating sector.
  • Demonstrating a solid understanding of Moody's processes, documentation standards, and best practices, while complying with all applicable laws and policies.

Coaching & Guidance

  • Offering guidance in delegating tasks to the data processing team.
  • Effectively managing workload to ensure timely completion of tasks. Seeking advice from management as needed to prioritize work effectively.
  • Providing feedback to management regarding the quality and accuracy of work produced by the data processing team, while offering constructive and proactive suggestions.

Risk Management and Compliance

  • Ensuring adherence to applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to certify relevant key codes as required. Completing mandatory training promptly.
  • Understanding Moody's risk management framework.
  • Increasing awareness of cyber risks and strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Ensuring high-quality work that is free from errors.

Qualifications

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification with strong academic performance.
  • Relevant experience in the Insurance sector (including internships). A solid understanding of the Insurance industry and its key drivers is essential.
  • Accounting knowledge with an emphasis on financial analysis is preferred.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (e.g., CFA, ACCA, FRM).
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with relevant programming languages (e.g., Python/SQL) is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and efficient, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proactive and capable of working effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Language Proficiency

  • Fluency in English is essential. Additional language skills (French, German, Spanish) would be beneficial.
