Position Overview

The Credit Ratings Analyst will collaborate with senior analysts in the assignment and oversight of credit ratings, conducting research, drafting reports, and engaging in various related tasks. This role involves evaluating credit risk by synthesizing inputs from both internal and external sources. The Analyst will conduct credit evaluations for assigned credits, transactions, or reviews, and is expected to contribute to rating committee discussions while interacting with issuers and market participants alongside senior analysts.

The Analyst position is crucial to Moody's dedication to accuracy in ratings, thorough research, and effective market engagement. Typically, the Analyst will concentrate on a specific rating group, with opportunities for cross-training in other areas.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management & Credit Quality

  • Analyzing financial statements and data, constructing and updating financial forecasts, and composing analytical commentary in line with Moody's methodologies.
  • Assisting with proprietary models and new financial projections, identifying data trends, and applying analytical judgment to reach sound credit conclusions.
  • Gaining a foundational understanding of credit principles through reviewing transaction documentation, cash flow analysis, and loss allocation rules.
  • Conducting analytical tasks for portfolio reviews and other credit-related projects.
  • Acquiring knowledge of Moody's methodologies and credit rating best practices, applying these with guidance from senior analysts.
  • Collaborating with senior analysts to draft initial rating committee memos.
  • Developing the ability to recognize key factors influencing issuer credit ratings by interpreting financial data and other inputs.
  • Monitoring credit quality and industry trends by tracking market developments and relevant news, analyzing issuer reports, and engaging with issuers for clarification.
  • Participating in rating committee meetings, providing analysis and insights as appropriate, and preparing credit estimates for assessing credit risk elements.

Research, Investor Outreach & Market Interaction
Contribute to the initial drafts of core research documents (such as credit opinions, issuer comments, press releases, and new issue reports) in collaboration with senior analysts. Participate in research strategy development, including idea generation and preliminary drafting, while adhering to Moody's research standards. Attend investor briefings and issuer meetings as necessary, assisting in the preparation of presentation materials and engaging in discussions.

Credit Administration
Utilize relevant ratings and research systems and software specific to the rating group, demonstrating a solid understanding of Moody's processes and best practices while complying with all applicable laws and policies.

Coaching & Guidance
Provide guidance in delegating tasks to the data processing team, managing workload effectively to ensure timely completion, and offering constructive feedback to the manager regarding the quality of work produced.

Risk Identification and Escalation
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, completing mandatory training promptly. Maintain awareness of Moody's risk management strategies and enhance understanding of cyber risks.
