About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Network Rail as a Principal Technical Officer, where you will play a key role in providing technical support to the Maintenance Engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure that all work is carried out safely and in accordance with Network Rail's safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans, and other instructions.

• Manage and check the quality of work delivered, ensuring that assets are compliant with industry standards.

• Develop and manage work and resource specifications, method statements, and plans to support the Maintenance Engineering team.

• Manage information to update systems, databases, and records, ensuring accurate and timely updates.

• Adhere to Network Rail's policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

• Undertake and supervise technical tasks, surveys, and design work, providing technical guidance and support as required.

• Design, install, test, and commission equipment, ensuring that all work is carried out to the highest standards.

• Provide technical support and guidance to the Maintenance Engineering team, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their roles effectively.

• Conduct technical inspections, tests, investigations, and analysis of technical data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as required.

• Update and provide information to accurately update systems, databases, and records, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and accurate.

• Prioritize work arising and agree work plans for the group, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and to the required standard.

• Prepare specifications and requisition for materials, ensuring that all materials are procured in a timely and cost-effective manner.

• Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment, ensuring that all equipment is calibrated and certified to the required standards.

• Contribute to your own development and that of others, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge and experience of technical support activities and techniques, including electrification and plant maintenance.

• Knowledge and experience of design requirements, processes, and techniques, including construction management.

• Ability to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working behaviors within the team.

• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including the ability to coach, influence, and develop others.

• Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.

• Ideally hold or be working towards an NVQ level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject.

• Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
