About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Practitioner to join our Student Services team at the University of Derby. As a key member of our Counselling and Mental Health Team, you will play a vital role in providing assessment and support to students experiencing mental health difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess the support needs of applicants and students who experience mental illness and/or autism, and develop personalized support plans.
  • Manage clinical risk in relation to student wellbeing, creating safety plans and referring students to statutory and 3rd sector agencies as necessary.
  • Provide information and guidance to staff within the university on student mental health.
  • Undertake responsibilities for safeguarding and protecting children and vulnerable adults, maintaining accurate records and complying with data protection requirements.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and monitoring of service provision, promoting the University's Equality & Diversity Policy.
Requirements
  • Professional registration with either HCPC/NMC/SWE.
  • Experience of working with people who experience mental illness and/or autism, including crisis management and risk assessment.
  • Awareness of mental health conditions and autism spectrum conditions, and their potential impact on academic study.
  • Knowledge of the Equality Act, Mental Health Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Positive and inclusive attitude to mental health and wellbeing, with flexibility and adaptability to work across teams.
