About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Practitioner to join our team at Compass, a leading provider of wellbeing, health, and early help services for children and young people.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality support to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.

As a Mental Health Practitioner, you will work closely with children, young people, and their families to provide structured, evidence-based therapy informed interventions.

You will also provide supervision to Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners and offer advice and consultation support to professionals and education staff within a defined locality.

The ideal candidate will have a core professional qualification relevant to mental health, postgraduate experience working with children and young people, and a strong understanding of the principles and practice of CBT and clinical supervision.

You will be knowledgeable and experienced in working with children and young people with mental health needs, completing mental health assessments, providing practice supervision and support, and providing specialist care directly to children and young people and families.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, network with other agencies, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality support to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties
  • Provide structured, evidence-based therapy informed interventions
  • Provide supervision to Emotional Wellbeing Practitioners
  • Offer advice and consultation support to professionals and education staff within a defined locality
  • Work closely with children, young people, and their families to provide specialist care
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • Core professional qualification relevant to mental health
  • Postgraduate experience working with children and young people
  • Strong understanding of the principles and practice of CBT and clinical supervision
  • Knowledge of educational environments
  • Knowledge of safeguarding issues
  • Knowledge of capacity and consent issues including Gillick competence
  • Experience of working with children and young people, their families, and others
  • Experience of working and liaising with a wide variety of agencies and stakeholders
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have social, emotional, and/or behavioural difficulties
  • Experience of working with anxiety disorders
  • Experience of working with affective (mood) disorders
  • Experience of the delivery of specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people, or their families (CBT, solution-focused brief therapy)
