Position Overview

We are seeking applications for a Senior Lecturer role focused on enhancing the educational offerings within our Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate programs. The responsibilities encompass various elements of teaching and organizing the department's biomedical engineering curriculum, which may include classroom instruction, laboratory facilitation, practical work supervision, planning, tutoring, and assessment.

Collaboration with fellow academics in the department and postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs) will be essential. You will play a key role in the design, planning, and execution of a high-quality educational curriculum, contributing to the development of learning resources, creating course outlines, and maintaining comprehensive records to track student progress, achievements, and attendance.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM discipline. Experience in teaching methodologies such as problem-based and laboratory-based learning is required, along with a background in instructing undergraduate and/or Master's level students.

Applicants should demonstrate foundational to intermediate knowledge and practical experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • CAD design and Finite Element Analysis;
  • Mechanical testing of materials;
  • Analog and digital electronics;
  • Mathematical applications in biomedical engineering.

Strong organizational and time management skills are crucial, along with the ability to evaluate existing processes for efficiency improvements. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with meticulous attention to detail, are essential. The role includes coordinating and delivering a new module titled 'Foundations in Biomedical Engineering,' which focuses on imparting essential skills for the field. You will also contribute to broader undergraduate teaching and assessment, particularly in laboratory practicals and intensive group projects, while supervising student projects and serving as a personal tutor for a cohort of undergraduates.
