Position Overview

We are seeking applications for a Senior Lecturer (Teaching) role aimed at enhancing the educational offerings within our Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate programs. This position encompasses various responsibilities related to the delivery and organization of the department's biomedical engineering curriculum, including classroom instruction, laboratory management, practical work supervision, course planning, tutoring, and assessment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with fellow academics and appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs). Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the development, planning, and execution of a high-quality curriculum.
  • Assisting in the creation of learning materials and preparing detailed schemes of work.
  • Maintaining comprehensive records to monitor student progress, achievements, and attendance.

Candidate Profile

The ideal applicant will possess a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) discipline. They should have experience in teaching methodologies, particularly problem-based and laboratory-based learning, and have taught undergraduate and/or Master's level students.

Essential qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in at least two of the following areas:
    • CAD design & Finite element modeling;
    • Mechanical testing of materials;
    • Analogue and digital electronics;
    • Application of Mathematics in biomedical engineering.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to enhance existing processes for improved efficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, along with meticulous attention to detail.

This role will involve coordinating and delivering a new module titled 'Foundations in Biomedical Engineering', which focuses on teaching essential skills for the field. The successful candidate will also contribute to broader undergraduate teaching and assessment, particularly in laboratory practicals and intensive group projects.
