In the role of a Life Medical Underwriter, you will evaluate Life, Critical Illness, and/or Income Protection applications that do not conform to our online underwriting standards. Your focus will be on making prompt, high-quality underwriting decisions. Opportunities for mentoring and developing new team members, engaging in specialized underwriting, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives will be available as you advance in your career. We also offer various pathways for skill enhancement, including roles in our Large Case Underwriting team, Underwriting Development team, Underwriting Quality/Retro team, or as a Team Leader.

Candidate Profile

We are in search of seasoned medical underwriters who are passionate about delivering outstanding service to become part of our UK retail protection team.

As a Life Medical Underwriter, you will be expected to:

  • Make timely, high-quality decisions aligned with the Zurich underwriting philosophy and frameworks, ensuring applications are underwritten to a superior standard
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients and advisers
  • Address decision challenges positively by articulating the rationale behind your decisions
  • Mentor and support fellow team members, providing guidance as needed
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement
  • Always act with integrity, demonstrating a proactive and positive attitude

Ideally, you should also possess:

  • Authority to underwrite protection products, including Life, Critical Illness, and/or Income Protection
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, with a self-motivated approach
  • A customer-centric mindset with exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A keen attention to detail with a proven track record of delivering quality results
  • Proficiency in relevant IT skills
