In the role of a Life Medical Underwriter, you will evaluate applications for Life, Critical Illness, and/or Income Protection that do not meet our online underwriting standards. Your primary responsibility will be to make swift, high-quality underwriting decisions. You will have the opportunity to engage in mentoring and training of new team members, specialized underwriting tasks, continuous improvement initiatives, or serve as a strategic contact as you advance in your career. We also offer various pathways for skill enhancement, including roles in our Large Case Underwriting team, Underwriting Development team, Underwriting Quality/Retro team, or as a Team Leader.

Candidate Profile

We are in search of seasoned medical underwriters who are passionate about delivering outstanding service to join our UK retail protection division.

As a Life Medical Underwriter, you will be expected to:

  • Make informed, timely decisions aligned with Zurich's underwriting principles and frameworks, ensuring high standards in application evaluations.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients and advisors.
  • Address decision challenges positively by articulating the rationale behind your decisions.
  • Mentor and assist fellow team members, providing guidance as needed.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Uphold integrity and demonstrate a proactive, positive attitude.

Ideally, you should also possess:

  • The authority to underwrite protection products, including Life, Critical Illness, and/or Income Protection.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating self-motivation.
  • A customer-centric approach with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A keen attention to detail and a proven history of delivering quality results.
  • Proficiency in relevant IT applications.
