The role of an Underwriting Team Leader is to lead, motivate and develop a team of Market Underwriters. Our customers seek a high-quality service and this role in instrumental in creating and managing the delivery of our underwriting, operational and customer plans. Our customers are dynamic, complex and at the leading edge of many of the biggest challenges facing our nation – from supporting net zero transition, facilitating the building of new homes and infrastructure and supporting those most in need in our communities.
This role is ideal if you are seeking a people manager position without losing your technical underwriting skills but is equally suited to someone with strong operational management skills and an underwriting background/experience.
The role will work with a variety of stakeholders across the business – and working closely with the Head of the Market, Central Underwriting Team, Account Management leads, Risk and Claims teams to develop and implement key strategies.

What will you be doing?
- Lead and role model an Underwriting culture of service excellence - striving and exceeding our customer expectations. As part of this you will actively manage delivery of our work states and service against KPI's – escalating issues as required.
- Working with a mix of Senior and Junior underwriters – inspire, motivate, mentor and develop individuals, including progressing authorities. Achieve outstanding performance through personal leadership style and behaviours.
- Supporting both the Head of Market and Market Portfolio Lead to develop and implement approaches to ensure we deliver our market strategies and achieve our financial and underwriting plans
- Maintain an understanding of the metrics and the drivers of performance variances against expectations and use data to influence and advise the team strategy
- Analysing and interpreting competitor and market insight to determine responses to market conditions and customer demand; how to maintain a trading edge
- Build strong and lasting relationships within both Underwriting and Sales.
- Being an active role model – demonstrating the Zurich behaviours
