Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nuffield Health. As a key member of our Pharmacy department, you will be responsible for leading a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants, ensuring the accurate dispensing and distribution of medications, and maintaining quality governance procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership and Team Management
  • Supervise and lead a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants, providing guidance, support, and training as necessary.
  • Coordinate staff schedules and assignments to ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow within the pharmacy department.
  • Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development among staff members.
Dispensing and Distribution
  • Oversee the accurate dispensing and distribution of medications in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor medication inventory levels across the hospital, ordering supplies as needed and maintaining appropriate stock levels to meet patient demand.
Quality Governance and Compliance
  • Implement and maintain quality governance procedures to ensure the safety, efficacy, and integrity of pharmaceutical products and services.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory standards, including those set by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and other regulatory bodies.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, addressing any findings or deficiencies and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Patient Care and Counselling
  • Provide medication counselling and education to patients, addressing questions, concerns, and instructions related to their prescriptions.
  • Optimize medication therapy and promote patient safety and well-being.
  • Resolve medication-related issues and discrepancies, working closely with healthcare teams to achieve positive patient outcomes.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement within the pharmacy department, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings, committees, and projects aimed at improving patient care, safety, and satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Will have NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Technician or equivalent
  • Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a pharmacy setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of patient care, safety, and confidentiality.
