Job Overview

The Nutritional Care Assistant plays a vital role within the Dietetic team, delivering essential nutritional support to patients.

This position encompasses both administrative responsibilities and direct patient care, focusing on individuals who have previously consulted with a Dietitian and require follow-up for oral nutrition assistance.

Additionally, the role involves conducting educational sessions for healthcare staff, including ward housekeepers and support personnel.

The successful candidate will engage in ongoing training and development, including mandatory training and professional development opportunities within the Dietetic and Therapy teams.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage and execute administrative tasks for the Dietetic team.

- Oversee the inventory of patient information materials, nutritional supplement samples, and feeding equipment for patient transitions.

- Facilitate the safe and efficient discharge of patients receiving Dietetic services.

- Assist in organizing events and informational stands for the Dietetic team.

- Accurately collect and document data in relevant systems.

- Competently gather and record basic anthropometric measurements, including weight, height, and mid-upper arm circumference.

- Develop a foundational understanding of feeding pumps and related equipment.

- Support the Food Service Dietitian with catering-related tasks as needed.

- Promote the Dietetic referral criteria among multidisciplinary team members.

- Assist with the training, implementation, and auditing of the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (MUST).

- Organize, prioritize, and manage a caseload of patients previously assessed by a Dietitian for oral nutrition support.

- Independently consult with patients and create oral nutrition support plans.

- Understand the various special diet menus available.

Job Requirements

Education

Essential

  • RQF level 2 qualifications (GCSE - grades 4 or C or above) in Maths and English.
  • RQF level 3 qualification such as A level, level 3 national diploma, T level, or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in roles involving interaction with people, such as customer service or volunteering.

Desirable

  • Experience in a healthcare environment, including volunteering or personal experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Effective communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
