About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Pharmacist to join our team in Community Services. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy services, leading on and providing an advanced clinical pharmacy service to the HIV team, and working to establish clearly defined roles for pharmacist non-medical prescribers within the HIV and antimicrobials.

You will work closely with pharmacy, microbiology/infection control, medical and nursing staff to co-ordinate and undertake programmes of work identified by the Trust's antimicrobial steering group. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your clinical skills and manage the pharmacy service to Sexual Health and HIV patients, while working towards credentialing for a consultant post and utilising your skills as a Non-Medical prescriber.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy service, leading on and providing an advanced clinical pharmacy service to the HIV team, and working to establish clearly defined roles for pharmacist non-medical prescribers within the HIV and antimicrobials.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for the provision of a high-quality patient-focused clinical pharmacy service.
  2. Lead on and provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to the HIV team.
  3. Working to establish clearly defined roles for pharmacist non-medical prescribers within the HIV and antimicrobials.
  4. Developing the delivery of pharmacy services to ensure efficient use of resources and systems including monitoring drug expenditure, delivery of financial savings within and across the trust through best use of antimicrobials and enabling early discharge.
  5. Work closely with pharmacy, microbiology/infection control, medical and nursing staff to co-ordinate and undertake programmes of work identified by the Trust's antimicrobial steering group.

University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) NHS is the largest hospital on the Southwest Peninsula providing comprehensive secondary & tertiary care to a population of around 2,000,000 people who can access our specialist services including cardiothoracic surgery, kidney transplantation, neurosurgery, & the regional trauma Centre. Our specialist cancer treatments include bone marrow transplant, sarcoma surgery and hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancer surgery (not exhaustive). We work closely with our community partners delivering health & social care.

This post will be an integral member of both the microbiology and Sexual Health & HIV multidisciplinary teams joining clinicians, nurse specialists and other allied healthcare professionals providing a dedicated service to sexual health & HIV patients alongside working closely with various clinical specialties as an expert in infection management, promoting antimicrobial stewardship and educating and training colleagues on appropriate use of antimicrobials.

Person Specification
  • Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy.
  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Certificate.
  • Non-medical prescriber (or must be willing to undertake this when requested).
  • Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma.
  • Current registration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Member of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA).
Knowledge & Experience
  • Excellent proven knowledge of clinical pharmacy and drug use with the area of HIV in addition to Antimicrobials, and infection management.
  • Excellent proven knowledge of general clinical pharmacy and drug use.
  • Demonstrable senior pharmacy management experience.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of teaching, training and people development.
  • Demonstrable experience in presenting research.
  • Proven knowledge of treatment pathways and commissioning of therapies for the treatment of infections.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of financial issues.
