Job Overview

Transformation Unit is seeking a highly motivated and experienced medical secretary/administrator to provide effective and comprehensive secretarial and administrative support for our busy team.

The successful candidate must be proficient in IT packages and Microsoft Office and have a knowledge of medical terminology. A knowledge of EMIS is desirable, although full training will be given.

We are looking for a flexible, enthusiastic team player with good interpersonal skills and an excellent telephone manner who can work well under pressure, showing initiative, self-motivation, and understanding the importance of prioritising their own workload to meet deadlines and competing demands.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to our team, including:

  • Following triage of referrals, ensuring all patients are contacted promptly in line with local KPI's.
  • Ensuring appointments for new referrals are made within RTT targets and patients who require follow-up appointments have a schedule due date.
  • Acting as first point of contact for enquiries received from patients, hospitals, GP practices, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Assisting the Team Leader in tasks such as caseload management, running reports, supervision and training of staff, attending meetings, compiling agendas, taking minutes, and typing minutes.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • RSA III or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office.
  • AMSAPAR Diploma or equivalent experience.

  • Experience of working as a medical secretary.
  • Experience of information systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
