About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Onboarding & Risk Expert to join our team at Starling Bank. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for reviewing high-risk applications and ensuring that our customers are served in a timely manner while maintaining the bank's risk appetite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of reviewing high-risk applications and making informed decisions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor and guide our onboarding and periodic review teams to build knowledge and confidence in high-risk subject matter and our risk appetite.
  • Identify and oversee the identification of high-risk applications that require enhanced due diligence, and liaise with customers to gather additional information.
  • Ensure that queues and workstreams are well-maintained and that sufficient time is allocated for priorities.
  • Deliver engaging training sessions to large groups on risk and due diligence processes.
  • Positively influence the team culture and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Proactively seek improvements to existing processes and take ownership of implementing changes from start to finish.
  • Design, simplify, review, and update internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business and leverage these relationships to inform guidance and projects.
Requirements
  • Expert understanding of onboarding and due diligence processes, with a strong focus on risk management.
  • Competent in coaching and feedback, with the ability to deliver structured sessions that are goals-centric.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.
  • Knowledge of money laundering regulations and JMLSG guidance.
  • Ability to create meaningful, interactive training sessions on risk and due diligence.
  • Ability to balance workload and schedules with multiple priorities.
  • Ability to adapt to and deliver change in a fast-paced environment.
