Oncology Care Nurse

Job Title: Cancer Diagnostic Nurse at Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust
An exceptional opportunity is available at Epsom & St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust within the Acute Oncology & Rapid Diagnostic Team. This team is dedicated to managing inpatients exhibiting symptoms suggestive of cancer or those already diagnosed. The Rapid Diagnostic Centre (RDC) focuses on outpatients presenting with non-specific symptoms, aiming to diagnose or exclude cancer initially and subsequently refer to other relevant departments as necessary.
This role is designed to facilitate the professional development of the incumbent towards acquiring specialized knowledge in cancer diagnostics and treatment, potentially leading to future Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) career advancement.
Main Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary contact for all patients suspected of or diagnosed with conditions managed by AOS & RDC.
- Deliver thorough, patient-centered assessments and care, utilizing exceptional communication skills.
- Provide psychological support, information, and guidance to patients and their families.
- Function independently while collaborating effectively within a cohesive team environment.
About the Team:
The Acute Oncology Service (AOS) team offers expert nursing support, guidance, and information to patients who are hospitalized due to cancer treatment or who are suspected of having cancer.
The Rapid Diagnostic Centre (RDC) enhances established pathways by striving to confirm or exclude a cancer diagnosis within a 28-day timeframe for patients with non-specific symptoms requiring a comprehensive diagnostic approach. The emphasis is on timely diagnosis, ideally within 28 days.
