Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Senior Technician to become a vital part of a thriving Engineering team at one of the UK's foremost Train Operating Companies.

The primary responsibility of this position is to execute both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks, along with modifications or refurbishments on passenger trains and their components. You will be engaged in diagnosing systems, conducting fault assessments, and repairing electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems associated with passenger trains.

Key Duties for the Senior Technician Role:

  • Diagnose and test train systems, implementing preventive and corrective maintenance utilizing testing tools to confirm or refute system failures.
  • Formulate defect rectification strategies to aid fellow maintenance personnel, crafting solutions that ensure immediate mitigation and long-term resolution.
  • Examine asset management data to forecast risks and devise necessary interventions while identifying trends and improvement initiatives.
  • Mitigate obsolescence risks effectively.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff, enhancing their fault diagnosis and analytical capabilities.
  • Enhance depot operations, fleet management processes, and Vehicle Maintenance Instructions.

Qualifications Required for the Senior Technician Role:

  • Comprehensive understanding of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering principles.
  • Completion of a recognized Mechanical/Electrical Engineering apprenticeship.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of mentoring colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrical fault diagnosis – proficient in identifying, diagnosing, and repairing using schematic diagrams and related materials.
  • ONC or higher qualification in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics/PC/Software.
  • Experience within the rail industry is preferred.

  • Competitive salary up to £59,000.
