London, Greater London, United Kingdom MAYORS OFFICE FOR POLICING AND CRIME Full time
Position: Accountability Support Officer

Reference: PN00374A

Salary: £39, £45,411.00 per annum

Grade: 7

Contract Type: Fixed Term, Full Time

About the Role

Are you interested in contributing to the oversight of the Metropolitan Police Service on behalf of the citizens of London? Do you have a passion for enhancing the reform of a renowned police organization and influencing the future of law enforcement?

The Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) serves as the conduit through which the Mayor of London fulfills the role of Police and Crime Commissioner for the city, guided by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime (DMPC). MOPAC is tasked with a wide array of statutory responsibilities and collaborates closely with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to achieve the objectives aimed at fostering safer communities across London.

An exciting opportunity has emerged within MOPAC's Directorate of Strategy and MPS Oversight, aimed at supporting the execution of one of the organization’s key statutory obligations: holding the MPS accountable for its operational efficiency and effectiveness.

In light of the recent Baroness Casey Review concerning the culture and standards within the MPS, MOPAC has revitalized its oversight framework to enhance accountability and drive substantial systemic and cultural reforms as committed by the Commissioner of the Met.

MOPAC has initiated the London Policing Board, chaired by the Mayor, which includes a diverse array of independent and ex officio members, to bolster the transparency and openness of the accountability processes concerning the MPS on behalf of Londoners.

Responsibilities of the Accountability Support Officer

As a member of the broader Oversight Governance Team, the Accountability Support Officer will deliver high-quality administrative assistance to implement MOPAC's oversight framework, particularly focusing on supporting the London Policing Board and its members.

The role involves close collaboration with the London Policing Board Secretariat and the Oversight Governance Team to coordinate meetings with external stakeholders, prepare briefings, facilitate visits, and create development opportunities for Board members. Additionally, the role includes maintaining systems and processes that support the London Policing Board's operations, such as recording minutes of internal and external meetings and tracking action items.

This position is ideal for an organized individual with exceptional attention to detail, capable of managing tasks, schedules, and information proficiently. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously as well as collaboratively, demonstrating flexibility in response to evolving priorities.

This role presents a valuable development opportunity for individuals eager to engage in a high-profile organizational priority, become part of a supportive and high-performing team, and work collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes for the community.

Application Process

Interested candidates are encouraged to upload their CV and complete their personal profile, ensuring that their responses address the essential criteria and competency framework outlined in the job description. Please note that identifiable information should not be included in supporting question answers or introductory statements.

MOPAC operates a blind recruitment process, and candidates requiring reasonable adjustments during the application process should seek assistance as needed.

Political Restriction

All MOPAC staff members are subject to political restrictions as per the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011), without the right to apply for an exemption.

Security Vetting Clearance

Successful candidates will undergo necessary security vetting, which may take several weeks to complete. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Reward and Benefits

In addition to a competitive salary and civil service pension with a significant employer contribution, we offer a comprehensive range of benefits, including generous annual leave, interest-free season ticket loans, and flexible working arrangements.

Diversity and Inclusion

MOPAC is committed to ensuring that our workforce reflects the diversity of London. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith, or disability.
