Consultant in Vascular Imaging and Intervention

Bedford, Bedford, United Kingdom Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a remarkable opportunity to become a part of the Imaging division at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, following the recent merger with Luton and Dunstable University Hospital.

This role is primarily situated at Bedford Hospital, with the expectation that the successful applicant will also engage with Luton & Dunstable University Hospital as needed, potentially up to one day per week, depending on service demands.

Key Responsibilities

We seek a proactive interventional radiologist who is eager to enhance the local gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and hepatobiliary services, as well as the vascular interventional radiology offerings, as part of the Bedford, Luton & Milton Keynes (BLMK) Vascular Unit.

The position is mainly based at Bedford Hospital, but there will be a requirement to work at Luton Hospital one day a week. Following the relocation of the vascular hub to Luton Hospital, it is anticipated that vascular interventional procedures will predominantly occur at that site.

Initially, there will be a commitment to General Radiology on-call duties, currently set at 1 in 11, extending to 8 PM on weekdays and 3 PM on weekends, with plans to transition to a 7-day Interventional service/on-call in the near future.

Home reporting has been operational at Bedford since before the pandemic, and there is an option for extended working hours if desired.

With the increase in national training numbers, we plan to initiate Radiology registrar rotations at Bedford in the upcoming year, complementing the established posts at Luton. An interest in educational activities will be highly valued. Additionally, we conduct a regular undergraduate teaching program for students from the Cambridge rotation, which the successful candidates will be encouraged to support.

About Our Organization

Our Trust delivers hospital services to a growing community of approximately 700,000 individuals residing in Bedfordshire and surrounding regions across two active hospital sites. Travel between these sites may be necessary.

We are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, positioning us at the forefront of advanced healthcare. The Trust remains dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care through the best clinical expertise and technology available.

Job Duties

This is a full-time position; however, applications from those seeking part-time opportunities will also be considered.

- Uphold the highest clinical standards in managing all patients presenting to the hospital.

- Deliver a high-quality imaging service with a focus on Interventional Radiology.

- Collaborate with colleagues in the Imaging Department to manage all patients referred to the Trust.

- Participate in the general radiology responsibilities of the department, including the current 1 in 11 on-call rota, transitioning to a 7-day service/interventional on-call in the near future.

- Support radiographers and sonographer staff in the department and engage in the education and training of specialist registrars, junior medical staff, nursing personnel, and medical students.

- Actively engage in departmental and Trust matters related to Clinical Governance and audit.

- Take responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
