Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity exists for a motivated professional to become a part of the Interventional Cardiology division at Bedford Hospital, which is affiliated with Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role will require collaboration across multiple hospital locations.

The Cardiology unit is comprised of enthusiastic and forward-thinking cardiologists, and we are seeking a candidate who embodies similar qualities to enhance our team.

This position offers a remarkable chance to demonstrate your extensive knowledge of cardiac care, particularly in the realm of Interventional Cardiology. While the general cardiology responsibilities are shared among the team, each cardiologist has specific sub-specialty interests, and the selected candidate will be expected to possess proficiency in conducting diagnostic coronary angiography and coronary interventions.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the existing team of seven cardiology consultants at Bedford, delivering a comprehensive array of cardiology services, which includes the diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of patients. The appointee will be highly adept in managing adult heart conditions, with a particular emphasis on PCI and the utilization of advanced imaging technologies.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Medical Degree
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable:

  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

Registration Requirements

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or within six months of receipt of CCT at the time of interview) or CESR (must be on Specialist Register at the time of application)

Clinical Experience

Essential:

  • Evidence of advanced training in PCI, including adjunctive imaging technology
  • Evidence of comprehensive training and experience in Cardiology

Desirable:

  • Experience in implanting pacemakers
  • Experience in cardiac CT
  • Experience working at a consultant level

Teaching Experience

Desirable:

  • Participation in Teaching the Teachers or similar courses

Personal Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
  • Flexible approach, team player with strong management skills
  • Leadership capabilities

Clinical Governance

Essential:

  • Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance principles

  • Residence within a reasonable distance for on-call emergencies
