Community Alarm Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Community Alarm Officer to join our team at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. As a Community Alarm Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable adults in our community.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and install telecare equipment in individuals' homes, ensuring that they receive the necessary support and assistance.
- Operate the control centre equipment on a 24-hour basis, receiving and responding to emergency calls in accordance with the Telecare Service Association Code of Practice policies and procedures.
- Identify the type of emergency, assess the needs of the customer, and initiate appropriate action to calls received on a wide range of issues, including emergency, medical, social, housing, telecare, and care.
- Provide a courteous and professional service at all times, offering information, advice, and support to customers, colleagues, councillors, and contractors.
- Receive calls from individuals and establishments being monitored for lone worker, telecare, telehealth, fire, burglary, door access requests, and take appropriate action.
- Operate and maintain manual and computerised information systems, other computer terminals, and any other form of technology to provide the required service.
- Develop and maintain a sound working knowledge of the control centre and the range of alarm, telecare, and telehealth equipment, as well as basic building trade practices and materials.
- Participate in and maintain knowledge of SMBC's Emergency Planning procedures, receiving telephone calls and coordinating the appropriate action for major emergencies and serious incidents.
- Train, assist, and give instructions to new employees and officers internally and externally on the use of other scheme equipment.
- Contact colleagues and arrange emergency cover for sickness or any other absence.
- Actively promote the Community Alarms service and assist in the implementation of the marketing strategy.
- Attend and participate in Team Meetings.
- Undertake safety checks on the fleet vehicle used in the course of the duties.
- Provide emergency first aid, lifting, and handling as required, for which appropriate training will be given.
Experience
- Experience of working with vulnerable people in a caring capacity within their own home, and/or in a residential setting.
- Experience of social alarm or similar equipment within a control centre or other environment.
- Experience of using modern ICT packages, paying attention to detail when inputting sensitive data.
- Experience of prioritising emergency calls and ensuring primary calls are responded to first.
Desirable
- Understanding of social alarm equipment.
- Understanding of social alarm provision within care in the community.
- Demonstrate and understanding of other service providers and the support available.
- Must be able to deal with emotional demands of service users and liaise with appropriate 999 services in an emergency situation and pay attention to detail when sharing sensitive information.
Qualifications
- Literacy Level 2 qualification as a minimum or equivalent.
