About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Community Alarms Officer to join our team at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. As a Community Alarms Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents by providing a high-quality community alarm service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and install telecare equipment in individuals' homes, ensuring that they receive the necessary support to maintain their independence.
- Operate the control centre equipment on a 24-hour basis, receiving and responding to incoming calls in accordance with the Telecare Service Association Code of Practice policies and procedures.
- Identify the type of emergency, assess the needs of the customer, and initiate appropriate action to calls received on a wide range of issues, including emergency, medical, social, housing, telecare, and care.
- Provide a courteous and professional service at all times, offering information, advice, and support to customers, colleagues, councillors, and contractors.
- Receive calls from individuals and establishments being monitored for lone worker, telecare, telehealth, fire, burglary, temperature control, and other services, and take appropriate action.
- Participate in the operation of the Council's Appraisal Scheme and champion an open culture of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) throughout the council.
- Undertake safety checks on the vehicle used in the course of these duties and provide emergency first aid and lifting and handling as required.

Person Specification
- Experience of working with vulnerable people in a caring capacity within their own home or in a residential setting.
- Experience of social alarm or similar equipment within a control centre or other environment.
- Experience of using modern ICT packages and prioritising emergency calls.
- Understanding of social alarm equipment and provision within care in the community.
- Literacy Level 2 qualification as a minimum or equivalent.
