About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Alarms Officer to join our team at Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. As a Community Alarms Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting vulnerable individuals by assessing and installing telecare equipment in their homes.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assess and install telecare equipment in individuals' homes, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Operate the control centre equipment on a 24-hour basis, receiving and responding to incoming calls in accordance with the Telecare Service Association Code of Practice policies and procedures.
  • Identify emergencies, assess customer needs, and initiate appropriate action to calls received on a wide range of issues, including emergencies, medical, social, housing, telecare, and care.
  • Provide a courteous and professional service at all times, offering information, advice, and support to customers, colleagues, councillors, and contractors.
  • Undertake safety checks on fleet vehicles used in the course of duties and provide emergency first aid and lifting and handling as required.

Person Specification

  • Experience of working with vulnerable people in a caring capacity within their own home or in a residential setting.
  • Experience of social alarm or similar equipment within a control centre or other environment.
  • Experience of using modern ICT packages, paying attention to detail when inputting sensitive data.
  • Experience of prioritising emergency calls and ensuring primary calls are responded to first.

Qualifications

  • Literacy Level 2 qualification as a minimum or equivalent.
