Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Biomedical Scientist with a specialization in Microbiology to take on the role of Microbiology Team Manager within our esteemed organization. This position involves overseeing the Microbiology Department, where you will lead a passionate team committed to professional growth and excellence in service delivery.

As the Microbiology Team Manager, your responsibilities will include supervising various laboratory sections and ensuring that our team operates efficiently and effectively. You are required to be State Registered with the HCPC and possess an MSc in Microbiology or an equivalent qualification, such as the IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in Microbiology. A strong background in diagnostic microbiology and serology within a healthcare setting is essential, along with documented evidence of continuous professional development.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Quality Management Systems and Health and Safety regulations. Your role will encompass conducting staff evaluations, managing daily operations, and facilitating training to maintain high standards of service and timely results.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in implementing changes to enhance departmental performance while adhering to budgetary constraints. Strong communication skills and the ability to lead and organize effectively are vital for success in this position.

Job Responsibilities

As the Microbiology Team Manager, you will:

  • Lead and manage specific sections of the Microbiology laboratory.
  • Provide guidance and support to Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, and Healthcare Science Assistants.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate production of laboratory test results.
  • Act as a deputy for Operational Managers and other Microbiology Team Managers as needed.
  • Foster a culture of compassionate and inclusive leadership, promoting teamwork and collaboration.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • MSc in Microbiology or equivalent qualification.
  • Leadership or Management qualification.
  • IBMS approved BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
  • State Registration with the Health Care Professions Council.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Extensive experience in microbiology post State Registration.
  • Familiarity with Health & Safety legislation and policies.
  • Specialized knowledge in microbiology.

Desirable

  • Experience with virology techniques.
