Applications are invited from enthusiastic, confident, motivated and hardworking individuals to work as a Medical Laboratory Assistant. The post will be based at the North Tyneside General Hospital but the post holder may be rotated to other sites within the Trust including Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, as part of the departments' shift system.

The post holder will possess good literacy and numeracy skills as they will be responsible for receiving samples, labelling and entering patient data/ specimen details onto the Laboratory Information System. Other administrative duties including filing and answering the telephone.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

The Post holder will be responsible for;
- Preparing and processing clinical specimens for microbiological testing.
- Dealing with telephone enquiries from other departments, GPs, visitors to the departments.
- Liaising with staff from other departments, GPs and visitors to the department.
- Providing support to less experienced Clinical Support Workers.
