HSE Specialist

Job Summary:
This role provides front-line health and safety support, advice, and expert guidance to senior management and directors, completes group and statutory health and safety reporting requirements, lost-time incident investigation and case management, and delivers the second line of defense health and safety audit program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct health and safety branch reviews (second line of defense audits) in line with business risk profile.
- Support senior management in resolving health and safety-related queries and problems.
- Deliver health and safety-related training in line with the business health and safety plan or as a result of a specific training need identified.
- Manage the lost-time incident verification and investigation process, supporting line managers in ensuring that the just culture principles are correctly applied.
- Work with HR to support line managers with the return-to-work process for colleagues off due to lost-time incidents, ensuring robust plans are in place to help them return to a normal way of life as quickly as possible.
- Complete all RIDDOR reporting requirements for the region.
- Review various health and safety data streams for the region, such as near misses and self-assessment returns, to determine quality insights that can be used to support senior management and directors in reducing risk, and support senior management in resolving potentially significant or near-miss incidents.
- Develop and maintain relationships with senior management and members of colleague-led health and safety and driver forums in the region, enabling them to provide constructive feedback and input to the forum.
Requirements:
- An in-depth understanding of UK health and safety legislation and a pragmatic approach to applying risk reduction methods.
- A minimum of a NEBOSH General Certificate and at least 18 months of post-qualification experience in a medium to high-risk business.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, enabling effective communication across all levels of the business and the ability to influence and gain buy-in for safety and change.
