Purpose of the Role:

The Family Support Specialist will work directly with families, assessing and implementing placement plans to promote, strengthen, and develop parenting skills while ensuring the well-being of the child is always prioritized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive support to families across various aspects of daily life, health, and well-being. This includes guidance on basic baby care, feeding and eating routines, sleep patterns, budgeting, safety practices, discipline techniques, healthy eating habits, and lifestyle choices.
  • Actively participate in the development, implementation, and monitoring of individual family placement and assessment plans.
  • Conduct key work sessions as directed by the Case Manager.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with parents, other family members, and professionals such as GPs, Health Visitors, and Social Workers.
  • Ensure all documentation is meticulously completed, evidence-based, and accurately reflects the circumstances and issues encountered.

Resource Management:

  • Maintain a safe environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and other legal requirements.
  • Ensure the building, grounds, and equipment are well-maintained. Encourage staff and children to contribute to a clean and organized environment, making optimal use of available resources.
  • Utilize community resources effectively when appropriate.

Personal Attributes:

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, ensuring their implementation within the Unit.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development through reading, attending conferences, training sessions, and other activities as agreed upon with the line manager.
  • Report any concerns regarding families or staff to the appropriate individuals, such as a line manager.

Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults:

  • Brook Street Social Care is dedicated to the protection of children and vulnerable adults. All post holders are required to have an enhanced DBS check.

Health and Safety:

  • The Family Support Specialist will be expected to understand their responsibility for the health and safety of staff and families within the Unit.
  • They will ensure familiarity with health and safety policies and adherence to these guidelines.

  • The Family Support Specialist must be aware of their responsibility to ensure that all data is collected, stored, and handled in accordance with data protection regulations.
