Ilford, Greater London, United Kingdom Barnardos Full time

Barnardo's is thrilled to announce a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated and proactive Child and Family Support Specialist to become part of a newly established team focused on delivering essential support services.

This is a full-time position, requiring 37 hours per week, with a permanent fixed-term contract supported until March 2025.

Salary Range: £28,565 - £30,607, with no possibility of exceeding the upper limit.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to facilitate the safe discharge of children aged 0-12 years from emergency care settings, ensuring that non-acute cases are managed effectively within the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments through face-to-face meetings or triage calls to determine the family's needs and the appropriate level of intervention.
  • Provide tailored support to families, utilizing various methods including telephone consultations, virtual meetings, and home visits as necessary.
  • Guide families in accessing relevant partner services based on their identified needs.
  • Assist families in navigating referral processes and connecting them with both universal and specialized services.
  • Advocate for families, helping parents and caregivers communicate effectively with professionals and services.
  • Support families in accessing additional local resources.

Ideal Candidates Should Possess:

  • Proven experience working with families facing complex challenges, demonstrating the ability to build rapport through effective communication and a holistic approach.
  • Clarity and realism in outlining the support available to families.
  • A strong presence within the clinical environment, maintaining relationships with healthcare staff while being aware of their diverse schedules.
  • The capability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure healthcare setting.
  • Proficient IT skills for accurate data management and record-keeping.
  • A foundational understanding of public health issues, health disparities, and the broader determinants of health and well-being.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practices and the promotion of children's welfare.
  • A relevant Level 3 Qualification in Health and/or Social Care.

About the Program:

The Family Support Program aims to provide comprehensive assistance to vulnerable families by identifying and addressing unmet needs. By understanding the underlying factors contributing to emergency department visits, we strive to reduce unnecessary healthcare utilization sustainably.

This model integrates Family Support Specialists within children's emergency care settings, offering flexible, family-centered support through in-person, telephonic, and home visit options to tackle the root causes of frequent emergency department visits.

Note: This position is subject to funding availability, and should funding not be extended, candidates may face redundancy or transfer arrangements.

Work-Life Balance:

Barnardo's is committed to fostering a supportive work environment that values flexibility and work-life balance. We offer various benefits, including:

  • 26 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing with service.
  • Options to purchase additional leave through our HolidayPlus scheme.
