Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to become a part of our administrative team within the pathology department. Key Responsibilities
  • Organizing and distributing laboratory reports to various departments and external entities.
  • Receiving and processing deliveries – this involves a certain level of physical handling.
  • Preparing and dispatching supplies to GPs, wards, and other departments – this requires a certain level of physical handling.
  • Providing administrative assistance to the department, including IT support.
  • Supporting laboratory operations, such as assembling COVID-19 packs and FIT test kits.
Working with Our Organization

The administrative team in pathology plays a vital role in supporting various units within Clinical Laboratory Medicine. Our team is small and welcoming, with members who have extensive experience at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. Previous experience in telephone communication is essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively and independently.

Detailed Job Description and Main Duties
  • Organizing and distributing laboratory reports to wards and external parties.
  • Recording invoices and reconciling them with delivery notes for procurement approval.
  • Receiving and processing deliveries – this involves a certain level of physical handling.
  • Managing stock control.
  • Preparing and sending supplies to GPs, wards, and other service users – this requires a certain level of physical handling.
  • Filing histology slides.
  • Providing administrative support to the department, including IT assistance.
  • Assisting in laboratory tasks, such as preparing COVID-19 packs and FIT test kits.
  • Attending meetings to take and transcribe minutes.
  • Typing letters and reports as needed.
  • Organizing and maintaining filing systems for Clinical Laboratory Medicine documentation.
  • Operating office equipment such as photocopiers and printers.
  • Distributing mail within the department.
  • Utilizing Trust software systems.
  • Ensuring the security of departmental operations.
  • Participating in all mandatory training sessions.
Candidate Profile Essential Qualifications
  • GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade 4-9 or equivalent.
  • Proficient computer skills with a solid understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in audio typing.
Desirable Qualifications
  • ECDL certification or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Trust software systems.
  • Experience in minute-taking.
