About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Adult Nurse to join our dynamic team as a Senior Nurse Leader in Care of the Elderly. As a key member of the leadership team, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and person-centered care to our patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the team in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify and bid for externally funded clinical and leadership courses to address skills gaps and provide continuous professional development for the team.
  • Drive improvements in safety and quality, and provide training to meet unmet educational needs from incidents, patient feedback, compliments, and complaints.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues, particularly when patient ability to do so is compromised.
  • Manage and record complex clinical and management information on IT systems and documentation in accordance with policy guidelines and data protection act.
  • Lead and deliver safe care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate.
  • Administer medication and treatment within procedure for the ordering, prescribing, and administration of medication guidelines.
  • Participate in mentorship and educational programs for students, new staff, and other team members.
  • Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.
  • Support the Ward Manager and Matron in the implementation of policy and service development.
  • Undertake and support the Ward Manager and Matron in recruitment, retention, and performance-related issues, including supervision and mentorship of staff and students.
  • Support the Ward Manager and Matron in the management of budgetary control and resource management, including duty rotas and skill mix requirements.
  • Input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer-based systems and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
  • Respond to and support junior staff members with patient and public involvement, ensuring it is integrated into service delivery.
  • Liaise with other team members to ensure policies and protocols are in place to facilitate expert care of acutely unwell elderly patients.
  • Be actively involved in the setting up and maintaining of educational programs that ensure advanced knowledge and skills amongst the nursing team.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of the Trust clinical governance agenda through education, clinical guidelines, audit, and research within the geriatric field and engage in quality improvements and assurance.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse.
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of a professional portfolio, registration revalidation, and commitment to lifelong learning.
    • Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent, including a Recognised Teaching Qualification.
  • Experience:
    • Experience of working in an acute clinical environment.
    • Previous experience in a relevant specialty.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and passion for Practice Development.
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative and prioritise workload.
    • Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment.
    • Excellent presentational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrates ability to use clinical reasoning skills and techniques to assess, diagnose, plan, and offer a range of treatment options; deliver, evaluate, and amend the treatment plan.
    • Acts as a role model and is able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice.
