Job Overview

This position presents a remarkable opportunity for a fitness expert dedicated to enhancing the health and wellness of individuals within mental health services.

You will play a crucial role in expanding our exercise offerings across inpatient and community settings. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, your responsibilities will include delivering personalized, high-quality, and safe exercise and health guidance.

The ideal candidate will engage with adult service users, promoting physical activity and overall well-being. Opportunities for both full-time and part-time roles are available across various locations.

Candidates should possess experience in Mental Health, particularly in motivating individuals to exercise or fostering independence. A Gym Instructor Level 3 qualification or its equivalent is essential, along with experience working with diverse populations in physical activity settings.

Previous experience as a Physiotherapy Assistant is preferred.

A valid driving license is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will join a dedicated team of physiotherapists and exercise specialists to provide physical activity interventions for high-risk populations. Job Duties

Clinical Responsibilities: You will collaborate with medical and nursing staff to identify service users who may benefit from a fitness program. This includes conducting pre-exercise readiness screenings and appropriate physical assessments, managing risks, and recognizing contraindications to physical activity. You will design, implement, monitor, and adapt exercise programs for individuals and groups as necessary.

You will observe and track progress, providing relevant information and practical advice to service users and their families while promoting health initiatives and campaigns.

You will ensure safe handling of gym equipment and maintain a secure environment for service users, reporting any safeguarding concerns as per Trust protocols. You will carry out ongoing risk assessments related to clinical practice and personal safety, managing your caseload independently while seeking guidance when needed.

Personal Responsibilities: You will adhere to the terms of your employment contract and the Trust's values, maintaining registration with the relevant professional body and complying with applicable codes of conduct. Participation in management, clinical, and professional supervision sessions is expected, along with ongoing personal development and training.

You should possess strong motivational skills to engage individuals with severe mental health challenges and demonstrate the ability to build therapeutic relationships through effective communication.

Administrative Duties: You will manage administrative tasks related to your role, maintaining accurate service user records in accordance with Trust standards. You will ensure confidentiality and respect the rights of clients while planning your workload effectively.

Training and Development: You will assist in the onboarding of new staff and support students and less experienced colleagues. Participation in interdisciplinary training and mandatory training sessions is required to ensure professional growth.

Essential Qualifications:

  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or equivalent) or a willingness to complete within a specified timeframe.
  • Level 2 Fitness Instruction certification.
  • Level 3 Personal Training or Exercise Referral qualification.
  • Care Certificate or willingness to complete within six months.
  • REPS Registration or willingness to register within an agreed timeframe.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the fitness industry.
  • Ability to travel independently as per Trust policies.
  • Competent IT skills, including proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and electronic records.
  • Understanding of mental health issues and associated risks, with knowledge of safeguarding practices.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification.
  • Level 4 Fitness qualification.
  • Recognized coaching qualifications.
  • NVQ in health and social care or equivalent.
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health conditions or learning disabilities in physical activity settings.
