Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Safeguarding - Band 7

A position has become available within the safeguarding adults team for a Clinical Nurse Specialist dedicated to safeguarding vulnerable adults. This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about protecting the welfare of at-risk populations and who seek diverse experiences in addressing their needs. Candidates with a strong interest in safeguarding adults, the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, and Prevent initiatives, as well as a commitment to training and development, are encouraged to consider this role. The successful candidate will also support individuals facing challenges such as dementia and learning disabilities. Our team is well-established and committed to fostering professional growth in the safeguarding adults domain.

Main Responsibilities

Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members, the post holder will design, implement, and assess a comprehensive specialist service, ensuring that patients receive exemplary clinical care. The role requires the individual to act as a lead specialist, demonstrating a high level of expertise and providing specialist guidance, education, and support to both healthcare professionals and patients. Additionally, the post holder will engage in clinical audits and research within their area of specialization.

About Our Team

This position is part of a specialist team that offers guidance and support to highly vulnerable individuals accessing Trust services. Our team comprises professionals with diverse skills and knowledge from various fields, including mental health, learning disabilities, dementia, delirium, and social work. This role offers valuable learning experiences while working with individuals who have complex needs. The team collaborates closely with other departments and external organizations to advocate for patients and strive for optimal outcomes.

Key Duties

The post holder will play a crucial role in the ongoing enhancement of clinical practices, research, and care standards within the service. Responsibilities include developing policies, protocols, and guidelines, as well as contributing to service improvements in partnership with multidisciplinary colleagues. The individual will ensure the safety and well-being of service users, consistently promoting dignity and human rights through person-centered care principles.

Essential Qualifications

  • BSc/1st degree in a health-related field or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Professional knowledge acquired at degree level supplemented by specialist training and experience, ideally to a Master's level equivalent.
  • Current First Level Nurse Registration on the NMC register or equivalent, appropriate for the specialty area.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Postgraduate studies in Safeguarding Adults.
  • Mental Health qualification.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential Skills

  • Ability to lead and influence clinical staff.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act.

Desirable Skills

  • Capability to interpret and analyze complex data and findings.

Experience

Essential Experience

  • Extensive experience working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialty, delivering effective patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills, along with autonomous practice.
  • Experience in patient advocacy.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in a Mental Health setting.
  • Experience working with patients with learning disabilities.
