Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced pharmacist to lead our Rheumatology and Bone Health services. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to improve the quality and safety of our pharmacy services, as well as providing expert pharmaceutical support and advice to our clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Service Development: Develop and implement strategies to improve the quality and safety of our pharmacy services, including identifying and addressing gaps and risks in the service.
  2. Expert Pharmaceutical Support: Provide expert pharmaceutical support and advice to our clinical teams, including out-patient clinics, inpatients, and homecare services.
  3. Leadership and Management: Act as a clinical role model and lead all pharmacy staff in the provision of a high standard of clinical pharmacy services.
  4. Education and Training: Train and supervise junior pharmacy staff working in Rheumatology and Bone Health.
  5. Collaboration and Liaison: Liaise with colleagues in Primary Care and the Rheumatology and Bone Health teams to explore opportunities for collaboration on delivering excellent pharmaceutical care.
  6. Medicines Safety: Proactively support the safe and timely discharge of complex patients addressing any pharmaceutical needs that arise.
  7. Medicines Information: Provide advice and education to patients on the correct use of medication and ensure that directions associated with medications are understood.
  8. Medicines Legislation and Policy: Provide guidance to the Chief Pharmacist on relevant medicines legislation and policy.
  9. Policy and Procedure Development: Aid with the production of policies, procedures, guidelines, Patient Group Directions, and patient information.
  10. Quality Improvement: Audit, evaluate, develop, and implement evidence-based improvements.
  11. Medicines-Related Errors: Monitor medicine-related errors and interventions and contribute to root cause analyses.
  12. Expertise and Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in medical and pharmaceutical practice.
  13. Training and Development: Support and encourage training of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and non-registered pharmacy staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will also be responsible for leading and developing the pharmacy clinical trials services, ensuring pharmacy staff involved with clinical trials deliver a high standard of pharmaceutical care.

Key Responsibilities for Clinical Trials:

  1. Implementation and Monitoring: Lead the implementation and monitoring of all aspects of clinical trials.
  2. Protocol Review: Review trial protocols to identify how the pharmacy team can support clinical trials.
  3. Income Generation: Optimise income generation from Pharmacy trials activity.
  4. Regulatory Compliance: Review and develop action plans for Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) guidance.
  5. Audits and Inspections: Participate in formal audits organised by pharmaceutical drug companies and regulatory authorities.
  6. Documentation and Processes: Ensure documentation and processes for handling Investigational Medicines Products (IMPs) meet current standards.
  7. Investigations and Incidents: Be responsible for all Pharmacy investigations into study issues and incidents involving IMPs.
  8. Performance Data: Ensure there is a process for capturing clinical trials performance data.
  9. Leadership and Motivation: Act as a clinical role model and lead and motivate all staff in the provision of a high standard of pharmacy services.
