Job Overview

This position is a training contract lasting up to 24 months, with the potential for ongoing permanent employment contingent upon successful completion of the Trainee Investigator Program and subsequent appointment to a permanent Investigator role. Opportunities are available across various office locations.

Role Responsibilities

As a Trainee Investigator, you will become part of a dynamic and inclusive Investigations team, engaging in a diverse array of investigations. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of the police complaints system in England and Wales.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in the Professionalising Investigations Programme Level 1 (PIP1) to develop your investigative skills and knowledge.
  • Contributing to the delivery of high-quality, independent investigations, adhering to stringent guidelines.
  • Collecting and analyzing evidence, including report writing.
  • Conducting witness and subject interviews.
  • Visiting incident scenes and assisting in evidence preservation and recovery.
  • Attending postmortems and participating in legal proceedings.
  • Communicating effectively with complainants and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Taking responsibility for personal development and maintaining an accreditation portfolio.
  • Engaging in on-call duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential Requirements:

  • A valid driving license in England & Wales.
  • Experience in analyzing complex information and making evidence-based decisions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a focus on report writing.
  • Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace.

Additional Information

This role requires BPSS clearance. The successful candidate will undergo a standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check during the pre-employment process. The position may involve exposure to distressing material, and support services are available to assist staff in managing the emotional impact of the role.
