Job Overview

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in guiding and inspiring the clinical coding teams to ensure that coding practices are executed promptly, accurately, and in alignment with both national and local regulations. This position demands adherence to agreed timelines to fulfill the Trust's objectives.

The role involves meticulous analysis, interpretation, and extraction of pertinent clinical data from diverse sources, including discharge summaries, medical records, radiology, and pathology reports. The candidate will be expected to identify areas needing attention or opportunities for enhancement and effectively communicate these insights with team members, management, and relevant services within the Trust.

Within the designated health group, the candidate will support the coding management team by providing essential information, guidance, and assistance to divisions, clinicians, and managers regarding Clinical Coding and the National Tariff. Additionally, mentoring junior Clinical Coders will be a key responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Communication & Relationship Management Establish strong working relationships with both clinical and non-clinical services to advise on coding processes. Mentor junior coding staff, fostering their understanding of the role and pathways for advancement within the department. Assist junior staff in accessing training from Coding Auditors/Trainers, helping them comprehend audit feedback and implement necessary changes while adhering to coding standards. Clearly communicate complex coding rules and standards to staff at all levels, ensuring understanding of the implications of clinical or coding changes on the Trust's data outputs and financial health. Collaborate with colleagues to provide advice and support on Clinical Coding matters. Engage with clinicians and senior managers to identify and address issues within clinical coding, working collaboratively to enhance accuracy in the designated area. Proactively identify problems in clinical coding specialties, discussing recommendations and solutions with clinical teams and senior coding staff.
