Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Turning Point Full time

Position Overview

Essential Requirement: A Valid UK Driving License and Access to a Vehicle.

An exciting opportunity has emerged to become a part of Turning Point's Substance Use Services in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland as a Substance Use Recovery Specialist. In this role, you will collaborate with local law enforcement to assist individuals apprehended for substance-related offenses in accessing treatment and provide brief interventions for those receiving non-custodial penalties. Your commitment and involvement at this critical juncture will significantly contribute to reducing the risk of escalating substance use and criminal behavior.

The starting salary for this position is £24,150, with annual pay progression available up to £28,252. Depending on your experience, you may be offered a salary above the initial starting point.

You will have the chance to advance your career through a structured learning pathway and clearly defined career trajectories that will empower you to achieve your long-term aspirations and leverage your strengths.

Whether your goal is to move into a management position or to specialize as an Advanced Substance Use Practitioner, Turning Point is dedicated to supporting and guiding you on your professional journey.

Key Responsibilities

As a Substance Use Recovery Specialist, you will work flexibly throughout Leicestershire, assisting individuals arrested for substance-related offenses. You will engage with them in custody settings, providing brief interventions and facilitating their entry into treatment programs.

Additionally, you will take the lead as the Recovery Specialist for our Out of Court Disposals. Similar to educational sessions, you will conduct between one and six sessions, primarily in group formats (including virtual groups), aimed at preventing the escalation of substance use and criminal activity.

On a daily basis, you will collaborate with an Advanced Practitioner, another Recovery Specialist, and an administrative support staff member under the supervision of our Criminal Justice Team Leader. You will also maintain close working relationships with police and NHS Liaison and Diversion colleagues within custody environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication skills, be highly organized, and demonstrate a genuine passion for assisting service users in engaging with treatment options. You should be engaging, enthusiastic, and committed, with a strong interest in the Criminal Justice System and a willingness to work with individuals to help them transform their lives.

A valid driving license and access to a vehicle are essential, as you will be required to travel between various locations daily (expenses will be reimbursed). The ability to obtain police clearance is also a crucial requirement for this position. Flexibility in working hours, including some evenings and weekends, will be necessary to fulfill the role's demands.
