London, Greater London, United Kingdom Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint three Trauma Support Specialists to join its esteemed Trauma Service.

This service is a dedicated NHS psychotherapy team that offers therapeutic assistance to adults who have been profoundly impacted by traumatic experiences throughout their lives. The individuals we support have often endured multiple instances of trauma over extended periods, which can significantly affect their daily lives and overall well-being. Our approach is non-diagnostic, emphasizing flexibility and personalization in treatment, with lived experience being a crucial component of the clinical support provided.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have previously utilized the Trauma Service as patients, as we believe that their insights will enhance the peer support model we are developing. While we welcome applications from all qualified individuals, priority will be given to those with firsthand experience of our services.

We are looking for three dedicated and passionate trauma support practitioners who are willing to reflect on their own experiences of past trauma and therapy to assist others in their healing journeys. These roles present a unique opportunity to collaborate with clinicians in providing support to a diverse range of individuals, as well as contributing to the ongoing evolution of our service.

Key Responsibilities

The role will encompass providing lived experience and peer support to individuals accessing our services. Responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting welcome calls to new service users.
  • Facilitating a drop-in peer support group alongside another peer supporter.
  • Offering brief one-on-one support focused on specific challenges.
  • Participating in and co-facilitating psychoeducational workshops.
  • Receiving training and supervision from clinical staff.
  • Providing consultation to clinicians from a lived experience perspective.
  • Collaborating with other Experts by Experience and current service users to co-produce service elements.

We envision that lived experience work will involve sharing relevant aspects of personal recovery journeys, promoting choice, agency, hope, and purpose for our service users, as well as raising awareness of local resources that support personal development.

About the Organization

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is dedicated to fostering equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are particularly eager to attract candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to better serve the needs of our service users and students. Our Trust is committed to ensuring that all job applicants, employees, and clients are treated fairly and valued equally, regardless of their background.

We are a compassionate organization that values co-creation in the care and training we provide. We are passionate about the quality of our work and are committed to transparency, evidence-based practices, and continuous improvement. We prioritize the well-being of our staff and strive to cultivate leadership, innovation, and excellence within our workforce. We embrace diversity and work to make our services and training as accessible as possible, with a firm commitment to being an anti-racist, anti-homophobic, and anti-transphobic organization.
