Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to develop and lead our Befriender programme, working closely with our Volunteering, Bereavement Support Services, and Training Teams to grow a strong team of flexible, competent, and supportive Befriender Volunteers across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the Befriender programme, ensuring it meets the needs of our supporters and volunteers.
  • Work closely with our Volunteering Team to recruit, train, and manage a diverse team of Befrienders, promoting equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with our Bereavement Support Services Team to ensure that our Befriender programme is aligned with our bereavement support services, including support for younger parents and parents from higher-risk groups.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including volunteers, staff, and partners.
  • Develop and deliver training and resources to support Befrienders in their roles, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to provide high-quality support.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Befriender programme, making recommendations for improvement and ensuring that we are meeting our charitable objectives.

Requirements

  • Proven experience of developing and leading volunteer programmes, with a strong understanding of volunteering in the charity sector.
  • Excellent knowledge of equality, equity, diversity, and inclusion principles, with experience of applying these in a programme or project context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including volunteers, staff, and partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Highly organized, with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to create effective and professional relationships with volunteers, ensuring they feel supported and empowered in their roles.
