London, Greater London, United Kingdom Unlocked Graduates Full time
About the Role

This position sits within the Unlocked Programme Team, which is responsible for designing and implementing training programs for new cohorts, as well as providing support throughout their two-year tenure to enable them to have the most impact possible.

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to support our Programme Team with a wide range of tasks. The successful candidate will gain insight into:

  • Delivery and curriculum development
  • Our work with the Ambassador community
  • The specific training required to become a prison officer

The programme is national in scope, and some travel may be required to support our teams in Birmingham and Manchester.

About Unlocked Graduates

Unlocked Graduates exists to break cycles of reoffending. Currently, prisons are not equipped to achieve this, and over 50% of prisoners released from short-term sentences reoffend within a year. This not only makes our communities less safe but also represents a huge waste of potential, costing the taxpayer over £18bn every year.

Prisons must focus on providing the necessary support to enable individuals to focus on rehabilitation, thereby reducing reoffending. We believe that the transformative relationships between prison officers and prisoners are key to this. Prison officers are the agents of change within prisons, and their position on the landings means that they are the only professionals able to reach all prisoners in their care to drive change and lead rehabilitative efforts.

Since 2016, we have sought to lead this change by inspiring, recruiting, and training ambitious graduates to become outstanding prison officers with the aim of creating high-performing leaders to break cycles of reoffending in prisons and throughout society. We are creating a generation of leaders who believe that rehabilitation is possible. Since our founding, nearly 900 prison officers have been recruited by Unlocked Graduates and placed in 38 different prisons across England and Wales.

Unlocked's unique training and support model provides our participants with the skills and expertise they need to be excellent prison officers, lead rehabilitative efforts, and drive improvements across the system. Our curriculum has been developed by our expert trainers who take an evidence-led approach to ensure that it applies the most effective teaching and learning methods.

Our award-winning, two-year graduate leadership development programme has put the prison officer role on the map as a career where individuals can develop extraordinary leadership skills while making a real difference. It has raised the status of the role, and Unlocked's programme is currently ranked 22nd in the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers list. We are recognised in the UK and internationally for the impact our participants are having on the landings.
