Position Overview

We are pleased to announce a unique opportunity to become a part of our dedicated team as a Lead Nurse for Child Protection.

The successful candidate will take charge of the Oxleas Think Family safeguarding framework and operational plan, advocating for the safety and well-being of children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults while contributing to the formulation of pertinent safeguarding policies, protocols, and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will spearhead the Oxleas Think Family safeguarding framework and operational plan, ensuring the safety and welfare of children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults while aiding in the development of relevant safeguarding policies, protocols, and guidelines.

The individual will meet the obligations of Lead Nurse for Child Protection, overseeing the trust's safeguarding activities related to children. They will collaborate with the Lead Safeguarding Children Specialist for Adult Mental Health to cultivate robust and consistent safeguarding practices in accordance with best practices and legal requirements.

The candidate will provide expert guidance, supervision, and support on child protection issues, working collaboratively with key professionals and partner organizations.

The individual will actively engage in quality assurance initiatives, including training, audits, and the collection and analysis of relevant data.

The candidate will contribute to Child Protection practice reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews, Learning Reviews, and Serious Incident Investigations.

The individual will work closely with external partners to ensure effective safeguarding measures are in place.

The candidate will lead and have managerial responsibilities for Specialist Safeguarding Nurses/Practitioners.

Job Duties

  • Provide clinical leadership and expert guidance on child protection to all Oxleas personnel.
  • Ensure that staff are fully informed of their legal responsibilities regarding the safeguarding of children, adolescents, and vulnerable adults.
  • Oversee the local delivery of child protection services and assist the Head of Safeguarding in ensuring comprehensive provision across the trust.
  • Offer clinical leadership and managerial oversight to Specialist Safeguarding Nurses/Practitioners/MASH Health Professionals.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of child protection training in accordance with Intercollegiate guidance and as part of the local safeguarding children partnership's multi-agency training program.
  • Report any serious incidents with implications for child protection and contribute specialized knowledge to the investigation of such incidents.
  • Collaborate closely with external partners to ensure effective safeguarding arrangements.
  • Develop and conduct audit and review activities, ensuring that any recommendations and action plans are implemented.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential

  • Exceptional written communication skills.
  • Experience in managing personnel.
  • Involvement in relevant audit initiatives.
  • Qualified supervisor.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of safeguarding legislation and guidelines.
  • Evidence of postgraduate education in safeguarding.
  • A minimum of five years of post-basic nursing experience.

  • Familiarity with adult safeguarding practices.
