Job Overview

We are currently in search of a Deputy Manager for Residential Children's Services to enhance our operations.

Position Type: Full Time - 39 hours per week

Compensation: Up to £34,068.56 per annum (plus additional sleep-in shifts)

Key Responsibilities

The Deputy Manager will assist the registered manager in overseeing the daily operations of the home, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. This role is crucial in promoting the rights of young individuals and providing them with care that aligns with the organization's policies and procedures.

The Deputy Manager will also lead a team of care workers, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance to achieve positive outcomes for young people in our care, addressing their physical, psychological, emotional, and social development.

Additionally, the Deputy Manager will contribute to the overarching ethos, values, and objectives of the organization.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Registered Manager of the home and is accountable to the Responsible Individuals and Operational Directors.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Service and Practice Management

  • Develop and implement high-quality care in compliance with relevant legislation and organizational policies, ensuring an equal opportunities approach and safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, providing staff with necessary training and knowledge.
  • Assist the manager in maintaining accurate records for both young people and staff, implementing monitoring and evaluation systems.
  • Innovate and promote new techniques in childcare provision within the home, contributing positively to the senior management team.
  • Prepare for and chair various internal and external meetings alongside the registered manager or in their absence.
  • On a rotational basis, assume on-call responsibilities and cover sleep-in shifts as needed.
  • Write concise and evaluative reports, overseeing all written communications to maintain required standards.
  • Make decisions in the absence of the registered manager.

Human Resource Management

  • Participate in the recruitment process for new staff, ensuring all necessary checks are completed.
  • Support the registered manager in the induction, supervision, and appraisal of staff in line with organizational policies.
  • Assist in meeting the continuous professional development needs of the team, ensuring compliance with mandatory training requirements.
  • Help maintain effective rotas and manage monthly expenses.
  • Conduct investigations into grievances, complaints, and disciplinary matters as per organizational policies.

Management of Resources

  • Support the registered manager in monitoring the service budget and financial transactions, ensuring targets are met.
  • Report maintenance issues to ensure that the premises and equipment meet required standards.

External Relations

  • Promote the organization positively with external agencies, professionals, and the public.
  • Liaise with commissioners and referral managers regarding admissions.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Passion for delivering high-quality care and education.
  • Minimum Level 3 qualification in Children's and Young People's Workforce or equivalent.
  • Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management or willingness to pursue this qualification.
  • Experience in team management.
  • Thorough understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
  • Familiarity with the needs of vulnerable individuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices.
  • Possession of a current UK driving license or access to appropriate transport.
