Apprentice Commis Chef - Bournemouth

Shepherd Neame is pleased to announce an opportunity for an Apprentice Commis Chef to enhance their culinary skills.

No prior experience in the kitchen or hospitality sector is necessary. If you possess enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, we are ready to provide comprehensive training to equip you with the essential skills.

As a participant in the Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship, you will engage in fundamental kitchen operations through our partnership with a training provider at the Commis Chef Academy. This program allows you to explore various kitchen sections, helping you identify the area that inspires you the most. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will attend workshops and development sessions designed to enhance your culinary knowledge, skills, and professional conduct. You will also have access to an online learning platform and portfolio system.

Your Responsibilities as an Apprentice:

Your primary duties will take place in the kitchen and will include:

  • Food preparation - washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients as directed
  • Cooking and presenting dishes according to specifications
  • Food rotation - maintaining high standards of food hygiene
  • Equipment maintenance and sanitation - ensuring all tools meet food safety standards
  • Kitchen upkeep - maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen

While previous catering experience is advantageous, it is not a requirement. If you have a passion for food, are self-motivated, and excel in teamwork, we will provide the necessary training to develop your skills. Our training partner, HIT Training, will guide you through your educational journey.

The Commis Chef Academy offers engaging master classes and workshops. You will be required to travel to a Training Kitchen as part of your educational experience.

Apprentices will collaborate with industry professionals, exchanging ideas and enhancing their understanding of key culinary areas such as preparation, cooking techniques, flavor profiling, dish composition, and seasonal ingredients. The workshops incorporate content from recognized industry qualifications. Each apprentice will be assigned a coach for personalized guidance and progress evaluations with their supervisor.

Requirements:

  • The apprenticeship lasts for 12 months, with an additional 3 months for the End Point Assessment
  • A minimum of 6 hours per week in paid hours is required for off-the-job training (both on-site and off-site)
  • Attendance at Chef Academy training sessions approximately every four to six weeks is necessary

Future Opportunities:

Upon successful completion of this Level 2 apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to advance into a Senior Production or Chef De Partie position.
