Position Overview

Are you a qualified nurse or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) seeking to advance your career in theatre as a Lead Theatre Scrub Nurse? Join our dedicated and enthusiastic Theatre Team at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHSFT.

We provide a nurturing, dynamic, and challenging work atmosphere, emphasizing the training and professional growth of our personnel.

Our aim is to support your development in this role, guided by our Practice Development Facilitator, who is available within the department to assist all staff in achieving their professional goals.

Required Experience

A significant level of experience in the operating theatre is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and enthusiastic, possessing extensive experience across various theatre specialties and demonstrating exceptional communication skills.

We seek individuals who are proactive, well-organized, and exhibit a positive attitude towards adaptability and change management. This position is designed for someone with proficiency in scrub practices across multiple surgical specialties, including orthopaedic surgery. Additionally, there will be an expectation to coordinate and oversee the entire operation of the theatre department, which includes troubleshooting in all areas of the peri-operative environment.

We also anticipate that candidates will serve as professional role models for our team and department.

Applications will only be accepted from registered ODPs or nurses registered with the UK HCPC or NMC, holding a UK-approved qualification.

Qualifications and Professional Development

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with the NMC or ODP/ODA registered with the HCPC
  • A UK-recognized anaesthetic qualification

Desirable Qualifications

  • A recognized Teaching qualification

Experience Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Experience at band 5 theatre practitioner with relevant clinical experience pertinent to the role.
  • Experience in teaching and staff development.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in coordinating the daily operations of an operating department
  • Familiarity with peri-operative care of patients in a day surgery setting

Skills and Knowledge

Essential Skills

  • Comprehensive knowledge of multiple scrub specialties, including orthopaedic surgery
  • Excellent communication skills, adaptable to various situations
  • Ability to manage all aspects of standard operating theatre lists

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of staff rostering systems
  • Capability to conduct departmental audits
