Complex Injury Paralegal Role

Keoghs LLP is seeking a skilled Complex Injury Paralegal to support our growing Complex Injury Team in Southampton. This exciting opportunity will allow you to develop your expertise in large loss and complex injury work, including assisting on catastrophic cases and large loss claims valued from £100k to £5M.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support a small team in handling a variety of file handling tasks, including preparing basic court documents, filing and serving court documents, and diarising of court orders and hearing dates.
  • Liaise with experts and counsel regarding CVs, fees, and availability for conferences, JSMs, and hearings.
  • Communicate with insureds and witnesses regarding attendance at conferences, JSMs, and hearings, and draft witness summons as needed.
  • Collaborate with courts regarding hearings, applications, and consent orders.
  • Register and update CRU, notify CRU of settlement, and maintain experts' summaries, interim payment records, and offer history within the case management system.
  • Arrange appointments for claimants to be seen by medical experts, chase for reports, draft medical records mandates, and apply for records and police accident reports.
  • Review medical records and draft summaries using the records review spreadsheet.
  • Review photographic evidence and surveillance footage, and prepare a precis of the evidence.
  • Redact documents to ensure legal privilege is maintained and/or no GDPR breaches occur.
  • Field telephone calls and deal with general queries received from parties involved in the claims, including insureds, insurers, experts, and witnesses.
  • Arrange payments as required and conduct legal research.
As You Grow in the Role
  • Prepare instructions to counsel to advise on papers, in conference, or to attend hearings.
  • Liaise with parties involved in claims, including insureds and witnesses, to obtain evidence and draft witness statements.
  • Prepare disclosure lists of own evidence and review third-party disclosure, cross-referencing with own evidence and expert evidence, identifying basic anomalies and inconsistencies.
  • Attend client meetings and take notes with client approval.
  • Draft non-strategic updates to clients and more complex court documents, subject to supervision.
