Position Overview

We are looking to appoint two motivated Band 6 Physiotherapists to our paediatric community service. The roles will involve working within a well-established physiotherapy team in the region.

Our team collaborates closely with the Paediatric Occupational Therapy team and conducts joint clinics with Community Paediatricians. The successful candidates will manage a caseload of children with diverse neurodevelopmental challenges, providing care in community settings, clinics, and educational institutions. The target demographic includes children and young individuals aged 0-19 with physical disabilities and developmental delays.

The available positions are full-time, with one role based in a community centre and the other in a different facility. The core working day is structured around a Tuesday.

Main Responsibilities

As part of our dynamic team of Paediatric Physiotherapists, you will:

  • Deliver specialized physiotherapy assessments and interventions for children and young people in your designated area.
  • Engage effectively with multidisciplinary and multi-agency teams.
  • Oversee, mentor, and evaluate the performance of physiotherapy students, ensuring adherence to educational standards.
  • Delegate tasks to therapy assistants while maintaining oversight of their contributions.
  • Provide services in various environments, including clinics, schools, and community settings.
  • Act as a key worker for children on your caseload, ensuring seamless communication among all team members.

Planning and Accountability

  • Manage your schedule and prioritize your caseload to ensure equitable service delivery.
  • Function as an autonomous practitioner with regular clinical and managerial support.
  • Be accountable for all aspects of your work, including the management of children in your care.
  • Stay updated on the latest equipment options and manage the requisition of necessary tools for your caseload.

Patient Interaction

  • Conduct comprehensive physiotherapeutic assessments for children with complex needs, considering their functioning in various environments.
  • Collaborate with children, their families, and other professionals to develop tailored treatment plans.
  • Support parents and caregivers in acquiring skills to assist with physiotherapy goals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary clinics to address the needs of children and their families.
  • Regularly reassess care and adjust therapy programs based on progress and outcomes.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to ensure effective and efficient physiotherapy services.

Policy Development and Communication

  • Engage in evidence-based audits and research to enhance clinical practices.
  • Represent the physiotherapy service in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure coordinated care.
  • Communicate effectively with families and other professionals to establish joint therapy goals.
  • Provide clear documentation for statutory processes and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Professional Development

  • Maintain your professional development through continuous learning and participation in training programs.
  • Support the growth of team members and contribute to the recruitment process when necessary.
  • Engage in research opportunities and contribute to service audits.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or diploma in physiotherapy.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Experience working as a physiotherapist, particularly with children.

Desirable:

  • Membership in relevant professional organizations.
  • Experience in community settings and involvement in research or audits.
