Salford, Salford, United Kingdom Teaching Personnel Full time

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team, providing tailored support to children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is within a supportive educational trust committed to inclusive learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualized interventions to help children overcome barriers to learning, such as emotional distress, behavioral challenges, and specific learning difficulties.
  • Collaborate closely with children who may have a range of needs, including autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, sensory processing issues, anxiety, depression, and attachment disorders.
  • Cultivate a nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.
  • Assist in delivering a creative, engaging, and inclusive curriculum designed to build self-confidence, promote academic progress, and address the unique needs of each student.
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviors, fostering a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create individualized support plans that address the specific needs of each child.

About the Students

Students within our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) often come from diverse and challenging backgrounds. They may be placed in a PRU due to various reasons:

  • Exclusion from mainstream schools due to behavioral issues or unmet special educational needs.
  • Emotional and mental health difficulties that make it challenging for them to thrive in a traditional school setting.
  • Experiences of trauma, neglect, or other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) that have impacted their ability to engage with learning.
  • A need for a more supportive and personalized educational environment to help them re-engage with their education and develop coping strategies for their challenges.

Key Requirements

  • Strong ability to support challenging behaviors and develop positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Understanding of the complexities and sensitivities surrounding SEMH needs and the ability to respond with empathy and professionalism.
  • Commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Flexibility to support pupils in different settings as needed.
