Classroom Support Assistant for Students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs
Position Overview: At Teaching Personnel, we are committed to enhancing the educational experiences of children facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Classroom Support Assistant to work within a specialized educational setting.
Role Summary: In this position, you will be instrumental in supporting children who have been removed from mainstream education, assisting them in flourishing within a caring and structured classroom environment. Collaborating closely with educators, you will implement a child-focused and trauma-informed methodology that helps re-engage students with their learning.
Significance of Your Role:
Students in our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) are at a pivotal point where disengagement from education can lead to severe long-term repercussions, including antisocial behavior and societal exclusion. Your involvement will guide these young individuals away from detrimental paths and towards promising futures.
Key Duties:
- Assist educators in delivering lessons by providing tailored support to individual students and small groups.
- Encourage students' social, emotional, and academic growth within the classroom.
- Create a positive and inclusive environment that fosters student engagement and development.
- Implement customized strategies to meet each student's specific needs, adjusting lesson plans as required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure a reflective approach that addresses the diverse needs of learners.
- Promote students' self-esteem and independence, aiding them in their educational journey.
Candidate Profile:
- Individuals with a passion for education, care, or supporting vulnerable populations.
- Graduates in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or related disciplines seeking practical SEMH experience.
- Experience managing challenging behavior in educational contexts is advantageous but not mandatory.
- A strong commitment to positively impacting the lives of children with SEMH needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Capacity to work effectively within a dedicated team.
What We Provide:
- An engaging opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive educational environment.
- The chance to enhance your skills and progress your career in education or youth support.
- A role where you can genuinely make a difference and help shape the futures of children with SEMH needs.
Requirements:
- Appropriate references and a DBS certificate (or eligibility to apply).
If you are dedicated to supporting children with SEMH needs and eager to contribute to their educational experiences, we would be pleased to hear from you.
All applicants must possess the necessary qualifications and training for this role. For further details, please refer to the FAQ section on the Teaching Personnel website.
