Team Dynamics
You will be part of our expanding Planning Team, dedicated to the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of the systems that dictate the behavior and movement of Oxa's Autonomous Vehicles (AVs) based on environmental insights.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Engineer specializing in Trajectory Planning, your primary focus will be on the design and implementation of software that generates optimal trajectories for AVs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the development and integration of trajectory planning software that efficiently generates AV trajectories, utilizing both existing solvers and custom implementations.
- Owning the architecture and functionality of the trajectory planning system, ensuring high-quality APIs for various on-vehicle applications.
- Fostering collaboration across teams to ensure the precise execution of AV maneuvers.
- Establishing metrics and tools to evaluate the performance of the trajectory planner across different AV platforms.
- Managing the entire engineering lifecycle from scoping and design to implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
- Influencing the technical direction within the Planning Team, ensuring alignment with other teams.
- Documenting processes and training team members, while focusing on feature enhancement and understanding the business value of your work.
- Leading recruitment efforts by defining roles, conducting interviews, and mentoring new team members.
- Enhancing product quality and customer experience while identifying process improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should possess:
- A PhD in a relevant field (Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Robotics, Applied Mathematics) with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience, or a Master's degree with at least 5 years of experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience in optimization-based trajectory planning and control for autonomous driving.
- A deep understanding of nonlinear optimization techniques and various trajectory planning formulations.
- Prior experience in a technical leadership role within a software development team focused on trajectory optimization or vehicle control.
- Proficiency in C++ and Python, including modern algorithm development and deployment.
- Familiarity with contemporary software engineering practices, including automated testing and continuous integration.
- Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle kinematics and dynamics.
- Experience with sampling-based trajectory planning methods.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
- ILQR, SQP, or Differential Dynamic Programming methodologies.
- Understanding of Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS) and Safety Force Field (SFF) concepts.
- Experience in vehicle dynamics and modeling.
- People management experience.
